Sell Your Skills Not Your Soul
Everyone is trying to sell you something.
(And yes, so am I.)
I’m not afraid of selling but maybe you are.
You haven’t written that proposal yet, you haven’t responded to that potential commission, you haven’t settled on a number that doesn’t make you cringe.
Why is it so hard to ask for money? To make a fair exchange for experience and time and effort?
Why is it so hard to value ourselves?
I’m not afraid of selling because I’ve learned (the hard way) that there is a difference between selling my skills and selling my “soul.”
My soul is the center of my creativity, my late night ruminations. The curious parts of me that seek the uncomfortable in order to encounter newness. My soul is worthy of being protected and valued.
The way we sell, the way we do business—it doesn’t have to be an exchange that makes us feel cringeworthy, scared, or diminished.
We can make business a more beautiful and fulfilling adventure.
We’re different. Let’s do business differently.
